Careful people, this car goes and turns a lot harder than it looks.
Superior handling, pretty torquey (for a stroked 1 litre). Sharp throttle response, if you can make the beast brake harder and adjust the throw range by upgrading to a short shifter, you'll have one track ready machine.
I was seriously getting one... but too small for a lanky bastard like myself. The cobras were awesome aswell.
Taken into account the age of this car,
5/10 For normal driving, the cabin drones and the sound could attract the attention from cops.
7/10 For tracking (get the brakes and throws fixed and it'll earn a nifty 9)
Also, nice work done on the interior with new carpets and that.
Just thought I'd let everyone know the engine isn't actually stroked, but is infact a rev happy 1100, from a Mini Clubman.
The brakes in this particular mini does not pull as hard because they're twin cylinder front drums and they tend to slide if you don't step on the pedal hard enough. However this doesn't mean the brakes are stuffed or that the brakes won't stop the car. It simply means that you need to use a little more strength to make the car respond, similar to the concept of power and non-power steering. Also not to neglect the fact the car lacks a brake booster, which can aid in the performance of braking slightly.
As for the exhaust, it's a fairly straight through system, with a single reverse-flow muffler, supplemented with a sexy looking tri-Y header. This setup slighty increase power output, but at an expense of increased noise. But at least it doesn't have a glassed packed, straight through muffler or the mini will scream it's head off hehe. Hey, but if you want to go all out circuit then who cares yeah. Time for a ROLL CAGE and a STAGE 3 HEAD! I wonder if anyone has ever put a T-88 on one of these? I know there was a green Chev or 308 mini lol.
Gear box is a little aggressive, but cog swapping is quite smooth with practice as Cat knows quite well, she shifts silky smooth if I might say so myself, even with the angry 3rd gear lol. Sorry about the 2nd, but luckily it's got syncro :P Thank goodness it's not dog or we'd have stuffed it by now :(
Well I don't know much about mini's, but I'll say I likes em. I likes em a lot. Time for me to buy a Turbo/Super-charged Moke hmmm... maybe just a non-rusty Moke?
PS: Did anyone say "drilled and slotted 7.5 inch Cooper S brakes? Yes? No?"
Can't you just swap out the 2nd synchro? 7.5? That's almost as big as the rim itself! Will it fit the rim it has now? Aren't inner rims circumferences smaller than what we see?
yeah the diameter of the inside is small. The outside diameter of the current mags are 10" so fitting 7.5" disk is no problem because the calipers do actually clear the inside of the wheels. Any higher then bigger mags are needed. As far as I know from 63 - 71 only cooper S models came out with front discs that fit the 10" mags. Everything after 84 or 85 disc became a standard thing (I think), however with 8.4" disc that fits udner 12" mags or larger.
Oh apparently some cooper 998cc were fitted with 7" disc, but pulled the mini up just as well as the front drums so I guess they weren't very good as the cooper S brakes.
Personally I'd just setup the mini with a brake booster and later on get 7.5" cooper S brakes, and if more stopping power is required later on just swap to KAD 4 pot or 6 pot depending on the funds. Oh and making sure the brakes are drilled and slotted for free by friends dad ;).
Hehe I remember seeing some Brembos on a track mini insane.
The Inner dwellings & thoughts that reside within my arse. Pulled out like a stringed thought from a Penseive yet brown and somewhat sloppy.
I wont work hard unless I have some gain. I'm hungry all the time but will never finish the plate. I go out too much then complain I'm sick. I think too much & will stutup now.
I am wierd (I get that a lot), can be crazy, a show-off, chilled, depends, I'm a chameleon. I like going out enjoy clubbing, doing crazy stuff & laughing. Also reading, alternative films, Harry Potter, art, rock music, mini's & also killing (edit that).
